What is Nightmare zone?

Nightmare zone is a combat minigame located north of Yanille. It involves fighting bosses that players have met before during questing. The whole activity takes place in a dream where nightmares are attacking the player. This dream is created by Dominic Onion NPC who is a dream seller.

To take part in this minigame player need to complete at least five quests from list below. The easiest ones would be Tree Gnome Village, The Grand Tree, Fight arena, Vampire Slayer, Lost City. There are also over 20 other quests that can be completed and each of them will unlock a new boss to fight in the arena.

Story behind Nightmare Zone

NMZ was created by Dominic Onion. Many years before Dominic had a dream during which he saw a great structure where he was in charge of amazing profitable business. Once he woke up he went to tell his Dad about it. All he did was a laugh at the poor Dominic who promised himself that he will find out what is the meaning behind this dream. He left home to study Oneiromancy at Lunar Isle trying to find the location of the tower from the dreams. As he ran out of money he moved north of Yanille where he opened a business of selling dreams. Nightmare zone name was not created by Dominic as that’s what people of Yanille called it.

Difficulty and modes

There are three different modes - practice, endurance, and rumble.

Practice - This mode is made only so people who enter Nightmare Zone for the first time can see what it is all about. Bosses in this mode are easy and don’t give any experience. There also is no payment fee to enter and quests are the only requirement.

Endurance - This is a ‘normal’ mode where players are trying to survive waves of bosses to achieve victory. After killing all of them, player is teleported outside and points are assigned for bosses he killed.

Rumble mode - is the most important one as the player will face endless waves of bosses until he dies or teleports away. RuneScape players use this one to train skills and earn points as bosses award way more of them than in other modes.

There are also two difficulties :

Easy - Gives the standard amount of points and bosses have all same levels as during quests.

Hard - Gives more points, monsters have higher health pool and it costs more to enter

Dream prices may vary from free (for practice mode) to 26k for hard custom rumble where you can choose which bosses you want to fight.

Preparation

To start off player need to deposit certain amount of coins needed to enter the dream. Gold can be deposit in special bag near the entrance.

If you are new to NMZ you will need to gather enough points so you can buy absorption and overload potions from the reward chest. ( 1000 and 1500 points per dose respectively ).

To do this fill your inventory with prayer potions and get around 4 combat potions as well. Try to survive for as long as possible which will reward you with better point amount.

As custom hard rumble is best possible exp income it is advised to choose this mode. During boss selection choosing melee only bosses will be best choice before getting absorptions and choosing all of them after acquiring potions. Points actually scale with bosses enabled so we want as many as possible.

The fight

During minigame we will face endless waves of bosses coming at us from every direction. There are some power-ups that will appear from time to time on the floor to aid us in battle.

White - Ultimate Force - Kills everything in the room and awards no exp for those kills

Purple - Zapper - Deals extra damage every few seconds

Red - Recurrent Damage - Adds extra damage per hit

Yellow - Power Surge - Constantly regenerates your special attack for 45 seconds

If you already accumulated absorption potions and overloads the only boss that can kill you will be corrupt lizardman. You should deactivate him so he won’t be able to kill you. There are also other bosses that can be tricky to kill but should be active because they give nice bonus points. However if you are maxed on points and want to have an easier time in dreams deactivate them.

There are also other bosses to watch out for (but they are less dangerous)

If you feel like one of the bosses causes you too much trouble and you don’t want to waste potions fighting him just use Ultimate Force powerup. In other cases try not using it as it wont give you experience for kills. To achieve maximum amount of experience and points possible player need to kill as many bosses as they can.

There are also additional bosses like Count Draynor, King Roald, Khazard War Lord, Tree Spirit, Moss Giant, Black Knight Titan, Ice Troll King, Black Demon,Witch s experiment, Giant Roc, Treus Dayth, Nazastarool, Hellhound, Kendal, Ancient Skeleton and other dangerous foes.

Inventory and equipment

Your inventory setup should consist of 4-8 prayer potions, 4 overloads, one weapon with special attack and locator orb or rock cake. Rest of the free inventory slots should be filled with absorption potions. Upon entering the dream player should drink overload and remove rest of the hitpoints down to 1 with wither locator orb or rock cake. This will make bosses to hit only for 1 which can be shielded for a long time due to absorption potions. For the equipment you should bring highest damage output set that you have (Dharok will work very well).

There are also numerous other effective gear items that can help you in battle : Berserker Ring, Seers Ring, Archers Ring, Abyssal Whip, Salve Amulet, Warrior Rings, Void Knight Set, Ardougne Cloak, Anti Fire Shield, Proselyte Armour, God Book, Granite Maul, Amulet of Fury and others. Make sure to bring potions like super magic, super ranging or super melee.

AFK training

If you came to nightmare zone to rise your experience on afk training this section is for you.

To start off just go to one of the corners in the dream so some of the bosses won’t be able to reach you (remember you need melee only bosses for it to work). If you want to afk with regular overload / absorption combo keep in mind that these effects will last around 5 minutes. There is also way to increase this time to 20 minutes when using super combat potions instead of overloads. For those who want to stay AFK even longer it is possible to fight bosses on easy mode with Guthan set for 20 minutes but it is not recommended since it wont give as much experience.

Rewards

The most important part while training in nightmare zones is collecting points for both overload and absorption potions. You should be able to buy full inventory of them every time you enter a dream. There is additional way of spending points if you are close to reaching cap. This should be used only when you know that you have enough points for the next batch of potions.

Firstly from NMZ you can get imbuables. Player can imbue every fremennik and wilderness ring to increase their stats two times. Black mask and Slayer helmet can be improved too adding to it 50% damage and accuracy boosts for magic and ranged as well. Lastly it is possible to imbue crystal items to always keep their maximum attack stats.

There is also special herb box that can be bought with points. Each of these boxes contains various herbs and cost 9500 points. Up to 15 boxes can be bought per day and each of them contains herbs that worth around 10k gold. This adds up to total 150k gold every day.
