OSRS Farming guide
p3ter 06.05.2019 0

Farming skill can be divided into two categories depending on player level. During early levels (before level 15) players will have to level up on allotment patches with various herbs, vegetables, and other small plants. After that, we can jump straight into the main farming method that takes us even up to 99 which is farming trees. There are also other additional ways of gaining farming experience and every method involving farming training will be included in this OSRS Farming guide.

How to farm in OSRS

Farming leveling revolves mainly around clearing dirt on plant patches, planting seeds into the ground, checking the health of the grown plant and removing it after it is full grown. During the leveling process there will be a lot of running involved so getting a few levels in Agility skill beforehand might prove useful. Knowing your running routes might also be a necessity since it will decrease the time spent on leveling.

Tips and tricks

-You can give farmer that stands close to patch payment and he will take care of your plants for you (protecting them from dying). In skill, window click on the farming icon to see which plant requires which payment.

-Adding compost, supercompost or ultracompost improves the yield of your plant and decreases the chance of it catching a disease (which may lead to its death).

-Adding water to allotment patch will block it from getting the disease. This also works for flower and hop patches

-Unlocking various teleports will be VERY useful during farming. Especially Spirit tree transportation system and Fairy rings.

For the Farming skill, you need lots of things like composts, seeds, and tools.

Get OSRS Gold here and make sure that you can afford them all.

Leprechauns

Near every farming patch in RuneScape you can find little green NPC called Leprechaun. Those gentlemen can help you in your farming journey by being your mobile bankers. You can right click on your harvested goods (for example potatoes) and choose use option on Leprechaun which will turn every potato in your inventory into a noted version of it saving you inventory space. Additionally, you can give them up to 255 compost and various tools which are used in farming. This is worth doing since it might help you in the future if you ever forget to bring one of the tools or buckets of compost.

Bagged plants

It is possible to level up farming very quick at lower levels by using bagged plants. To do so you need to have a house in Rimmington. Take with you 3 watering cans filled with water, a stack of coins and as many noted plants as you want. Go to the wooden house near your POH portal and unnote them by talking to NPC. After that just go to your house, plant, water, remove them and go back to refill your water (east of the well) and unnote more plants. Repeat the process for as long as you like but keep in mind that this method is very expensive and should only be used because of that only at lower levels.

Equipment

To start off as a farmer you will need to prepare your inventory accordingly to what you want to plant. The most important items are: spade, rake, saplings, and ultracompost in the same amount as saplings, farmer outfit (if unlocked), grace outfit (if unlocked), axe, coins, runes for teleports. If you are going to train on herb patches you will also need secateurs.

The easiest route to reach 99 in farming

Levels 1-35

Questing

To start off in farming you should complete Fairy Tale Part 1 quest which is very easy and not that long. This will not only take you from 1st level to 17th but also provide you with magic secateurs which are extremely useful during farming training. After that, you can begin doing other methods or focus on doing quests which award farming experience. There are numerous missions that can be completed without almost any requirements. If questing feels like a thing for you after Fairy Tale part 1 you can do: Forgettable Tale of a Drunken Dwarf, Garden of Tranquility, My Arm’s Big Adventure, Enlightened Journey and Recipe for Disaster (at least Goblin General part).

Levels 1-15

Allotments

Most basic farming patches in RuneScape are allotments. You can start planting at them with level 1 farming if you feel like doing quests is not for you. If you want to go with this route you will need to take with you necessary tools like a spade, rake, seeds (at level 1 potato seeds), and any variation of compost (supercompost at this level should do fine). After that head to every allotment patches, you can get to. Rake unnecessary weeds from the patch, add compost, plant what you want and wait around one hour for it to grow. You don’t need to be logged in and don’t need to stay near the plant for it to grow, so you can move somewhere else and do other things while your plants are growing.

Levels 15-99

Regular tree runs

Planting trees are the most popular and most common experience gainer for those who are leveling Farming. This is an everyday activity which you want to do as often as possible to get experience and level up. To start - go to your tree farming patch, rake any unnecessary weeds add ultracompost and plant your sapling. That’s pretty much all you need to do while farming just remember to run around every patch tree that you can access to maximize experience made. Also if you pay 200g to the NPC near patch he can cut down a tree for you which is a faster way than doing it by yourself. While doing tree runs you always want to plant best seeds that you can and pay the gardener to protect them from diseases. At level 15 you will be doing regular trees which are planted using acorns. At 30 you will be planting Willows, 45 Maples, 60 Yews and at 75 Magic trees.

Here is the list of payments required for Farmers to take care of your seed :

Acorn (Normal Tree) - Basket of Tomatoes

Levels 27-99

Fruit tree runs

In addition to regular tree farming, you can do fruit tree runs. These are very similar since you do the same things as with regular trees. The only difference is what you will plant and where since fruit trees are planted on special patches. Where those are located you can find below in the ‘Fruit tree farming route’ section of this guide. Those trees can be planted from level 27 when you are able to plant apples. Just as with regular ones you want to plant the highest level seeds to maximize your exp gains. At level 27 those are Apples, at 33 Bananas, you will need 39 for Oranges, 42 for Curry, 51 for Pineapple, 57 for Papaya, 68 for Palm Tree and 81 for Dragonfruit.

Levels 72+

Calquat trees

Players above level 72 can start planting Calquats which patch is located north of Tai Bwo Wannai on Karamja. This tree grows for over 21 hours but is a nice addition to other methods since it gives 12,5k exp while being harvested. Calquat tree seeds are also among cheap ones so it shouldn’t be a big deal to get some. These seeds can be bought from Grand Exchange which is the best option.

Levels 85+

Celastrus

If you have already passed 85 level gate you can plant one more special tree which is Celastrus. This tree patch is located in the third tier of the Farming guild. Although it requires quite expensive seeds it does not provide much more experience than a Calquat tree. Growth time is around 13,5 hours so overall it provides nice experience boost, but should only be done by those who have spare gold for farming and those who want to get maximum possible experience through the day.

Regular tree farming route

Start off at Varrock where you can find tree patch a little bit to the southeast of the castle. Teleport to Tree Gnome Stronghold with either Spirit Tree or Slayer Ring and plant what you have there. Use Falador teleport and farm tree patch in this area. Teleport to Lumbridge and farm tree patch there and lastly get to Taverley where you can find another one. Last tree patch is located in a farming guild but you will need 45 farming and 60% Hosidius favor to access it.

In addition to regular tree routes which you will be doing by the majority of the time, you can get additional experience in farming by planting fruit trees in patches made for them.

Fruit tree farming route

To get around this route quickly you want to unlock Spirit Tree traveling system. First one of those you can find just above Tree Gnome Agility Training Area where you can teleport using Spirit trees. After you are done teleport to the Tree Gnome Village and leave it by talking to NPC just outside the metal cage. From the entrance take a run to the west. Next one you can find east of Catherby just below the mountain. You can get there by teleporting to Camelot and running east. After that, you can find a patch in Brimhaven. The easiest way of getting there involves teleporting to Ardougne and taking the charter ship. Alternatively, you can set your house to Brimhaven which will make your traveling times a lot faster. There is also fruit tree patch in Lletya but this one involves completion of a long quest with high requirements. All of the fruit trees are growing 16 hours so it is usually done only once a day.

Farming herbs

Amongst most profitable farming methods one of the more popular is farming herb patches. It is similar to farming trees in terms of activities made but during these runs, we will visit special patches dedicated only to herbs. It is also necessary to bring secateurs (magic secateurs would be best) to harvest fully grown plants. Just simply follow the route below for farming patch locations, rake patches, plant seeds and come back after they are fully grown.

There are many types of herb seeds available for planting and harvesting like Ranarr, Snapdragon, Torstol, Toadflax and more so make sure to always use most profitable ones.

Herb patch farming route

There are seven herb patches in RuneScape and some of them are unlocked via quests and other activities. These patches are located in Ardougne, Falador, Catcherby, Draynor Village, Port Phasmatys, Troll Stronghold and Harmony Island. Remember that during Herb runs in addition to regular farming inventory you will need seed dibber and secateurs.

Start your run in Port Phasmatys where you can get via Ectophile. Run to the west where you will find your first herb patch. After you are finished teleport to Ardougne and harvest your herbs there. Next one will be Falador and quickest way of getting there involves using Explorer’s Ring. After this one goes to the Harmony Island via house teleporting tablet, Catherby, Draynor Village and Troll Stronghold. It is also worth noting that while wielding Magic Secateurs players have increased the chance of receiving herbs. A minimal amount will be 6 but you will be very likely to get more than that.

Ultimate farming route (regular trees + fruit trees)

The most efficient farming route that you can take would be best one to train your farming daily. It doesn’t require too much time and will make you gain steady experience every day.

Additional farming leveling option

In addition to normal leveling methods, players can take part in Tithe Farm which requires 100% Favor in Hosidius House as well as level 34+ Farming (although 74+ would be much better). Additionally if you want to maximize your exp income it is nice to have Humidify spell unlocked and full Graceful Outfit equipped. Tithe farm can be quite profitable giving over 100k exp/hour as well as a chance to get farmer outfit.
